RENATO WHITE WINES

Renato Pinot Gris 2014 / 15

The typical Nelson climate spoils us with very sunny and dry summers and early autumns, which allows us to patiently ripen the grapes to full maturity. The grapes are hand picked and whole bunch pressed. This is a delicate, floral style of Pinot Gris, showing hints of lychee and spice on the nose. It convinces with concentrated flavours of dried pear, quince & lychee and a lovely mouthfeel. A well balanced wine with a gentle sweetness, an extereal texture and silky tannins. Attractive and long, best drinking within 2 - 5 years of vintage.

Renato Sauvignon Blanc 2014 / 15WINE BOTTLES  

A vibrant, attractive Sauvignon Blanc from selected parcels of fruit grown on the alluvial soils of the Waimea plains. Immediately appealing, the wine displays ripe passionfruit and hints of lemon on the nose, while the palate reveals layers of flavours, such as gooseberry, lime and elderberry. It’s a delicate but full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc with a crisp, refreshing finish and an immense drinking pleasure. Best within 1 - 4 years of vintage.

Renato Chardonnay 2014
The wine is predominantely made from grapes of the flavourful Mendoza clone which perfectly grow on our Moutere clay soils at Kina. They ripe fruit is hand picked and whole bunch pressed, the must then fermented in French oak barriques (15% new) to preserve the delicate fruit flavours. The wine shows hints of white peaches on the nose while the palate displays aromas of stonefruit, figs, butterscotch and hints of pinneaple. This is an intensely concentrated and perfectly balanced Chardonnay with a persistent mouthfeel. It always needs time to show its great potential and will reward cellaring. Drink within 3 - 5 years of vintage.

 

RENATO RED WINES

 

Renato Pinot Noir 2013 / 14

Our dry warm summers keep producing lovely fruit which is harvested at perfect ripeness. The Renato Pinot Noir is only made from the best parcels of handpicked fruit, and aged for 11 months in top quality French oak barriques (25% new). It is deep purple in colour and displays concentrated aromas of wild berries and dark cherries. A complex, full bodied wine with a great texture, mouth-filling tannins and nicely integrated oak. A well-strucutred and elegant Pinot Noir with a persistent finish, which will reward mid- to longterm cellaring. Best drinking within 3 - 5 years after vintage.

Renato Pinot Noir 2012 (Switzerland only)

What a great vintage with a miniscule cropl of just 2.5 tons per hectare! The grapes were allowed to hang out until they reached their ultimate ripeness. Hand harvested on 10 April, this Pinot Noir wine was fermented with its indigenous yeast and aged for 12 months in oak barrels from Burgundy (25% new). It displays dark purple colours with concentrated aromas of dark berries & cherries. The wine has a gorgious mouth feel and an intense texture, with silky tannins & nicely integrated oak. A well-structured and elegant Pinot Noir, balanced and long. It will reward mid to long-term cellaring, drinking at its best within 3 – 6 years after vintage.

Renato Pinot Noir 2010 (Limited availability from Spring 2016 in Switzerland)

This is your chance to grab some aged Pinot Noir. It was made from low cropped, hand harvested fruit grown mainly on the clay soils of Kina. Small-batch fermentation with wild yeast was followed by ageing in French oak barriques for 10 months. A tightly structured wine with a perfect acid backbone. It displays aromas of vanilla, charry oak, dark berryfruit and a generous ripeness on the palate, ending in a lovely finish. It will unfold its potential from 2015 onwards. Best drinking 5 - 7 years from vintage.

Renato Merlot 2012 / 13

Hand harvested grapes from ultra-low cropping vines on Kina's clay soils produce our dark coloured, concentrated Merlot. After an extended maturation in stainless tell tanks, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. A dark coloured red, this wine displays attractive characters of dark plum, blueberry and mulberry. On the palate well-moderated oak aromas counter-balance elegant, juicy fruit tannins. A medium bodied Merlot in a lovely cool-climate style, it will be unfolding its full potential within 2 - 4 years of vintage.
